Experimental Vision

This is an exciting new area for TalkingDesktop software. Vision opens up some interesting possibilities in combination with our existing sound awareness and speech recognition abilities.

The hardware required to try our experimental vision module is a web camera.

This experimental vision module is initially basic in scope and being made available for customer comment on vision and web camera performance.

Web Camera Types
  • CCD style cameras tend to offer the best performance with our vision module. Low light vision performance has been good.
  • CMOS style cameras have given acceptable performance only under ideal lighting conditions. Low light vision performance is very poor.

  • Gestures Recognized
  • Nod your head left to right for NO.
When the computer needs a response that requires Yes or No, you can now nod your head NO or YES in addition to saying or typing a Yes or No response.
  • Nod your head up and down for YES
  • Wave your hand back and forth for HI
  • Wave your hand Good BYE

  • Motion Detection
  • The Vision module is able to detect motion and motion direction in its immediate environment.
  • Example: When the vision (web camera) module sees you walking into the room, the TalkingDesktop software is made aware of your approach. It can then initiate actions such as waking up a hibernating monitor or saying Hello John its 6:30.
